Summary

The URC conducted user research on prototypes of several proposed new features and changes in HOLLIS. This includes a linked data knowledge panel, changes to the check for online or print access options, and fuzzy search results options. This research will inform recommendations for the team working on implementing the new tools and updates in HOLLIS.

METHODOLOGY & PARTICIPANTS

We conducted a usability study with six virtual interviews.  The usability study included prototypes of a Linked Data knowledge panel, updated Check for Print or Online Access selection options, and fuzzy search results pages. The usability study focused on how a researcher interacts with and uses the system while the interview helped us understand their affect and thoughts around the process. These research findings will be shared with stakeholders to make improvements.

Due to the nature of the Linked Data prototype, participants were Harvard University students who have interacted with the HOLLIS site. The participants were drawn from the User Research Center’s participant pool. We conducted a pre-screening survey to recruit participants who are interested in film due to the nature of the Linked Data prototype within the Harvard Film Archive. Participants were compensated with a $50 Amazon gift card for their time.
